Lechlade is superbly situated for access to the Cotswolds, Cirencester, Cheltenham and Oxford. It is well known for being the highest navigable point of the Thames. It is a village strongly associated with the river historically, for the salt and wool trades and now for rowing boats and other river craft. Nearby attractions include: Cheltenham race week in March and Badminton horsetrials in May; for plane enthusiasts, nearby Fairford's annual International Ait Tattoo is in July. William Morris's museum in Kelmscott Manor is open every Wednesday in Summer. Many other fine houses and gardens of historic and modern interest abound. Lechlade Manor formed part of the estate of Catherine of Aragon.
Isenbard Brunel's Great Western Line had its railway works and now a railway museum in nearby Swindon which also boasts a retail outlet, a cinema complex, icerink and a swimming pool leisure centre.
