Victorian terraced cottage with heated swimming pool
Woodpeckers is a Victorian terraced cottage for a couple or up to a family of six, and a real home from home with the added bonus of a heated swimming pool.
It is situated in the village of Whippingham, and is an ideal base from which to visit the many attractions, the wonderful scenery, the rugged coast and sandy beaches that the Island has to offer. Visit the many places of historical interest, including Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s retreat.
Alternatively relax in the pretty south facing cottage garden, or swim in the pool. You may on occasion share the use of the pool with our adjacent cottage Springside.
Woodpeckers was once owned by Queen Victoria & Prince Albert, who designed many of the estate cottages. The cottage was built in 1845 and was the home to staff of Osborne. It has just recently been completely renovated and although it has the modern conveniences expected in a quality holiday cottage, many original features have been retained in order to keep the Victorian character intact.
The village of Whippingham is famous for its church, again designed by Prince Albert, and is close to Cowes, the well known yachting centre. There are excellent pubs and restaurants within a mile, and regular public transport covers the whole island.
The accommodation comprises of a generous sitting/dining room, kitchen/breakfast room, three double bedrooms, one with twin beds overlooking the garden, the bedrooms are full of character having beautiful Victorian fireplaces. Adequate furniture is provided in each room.
Family bathroom fitted with bath, over bath shower attachment, w.c, and wash basin.
Downstairs cloakroom fitted with w.c and wash basin.
Cosy garden room with cane seating, and of course looks out onto the garden.
The new kitchen is fitted with cooker and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster etc, and all the usual things you might have at home.
The duel aspect lounge/diner has comfortable seating, and overlooks the garden through the patio doors over the decking. The dining area has full size table and chairs for six.
The cottage is centrally heated throughout, and all fuel and electricity is included in the rent, The linen is crisp and white and the towels soft and fluffy. We do not supply beach or pool towels.
High chair and cot supplied.
The Woodpeckers garden is private, and separate from the pool garden. Garden furniture is provided. There is seating on the decking or in the arbour, from where you can watch the varied wildlife including the red squirrels, which come to feed each day. There is private off road parking for two cars.
The cottage is close to country and woodland walks, including the riverside walk to Newport, the Isle of Wight County town.
One well behaved pet is welcome by prior arrangement free of charge, but they are not allowed in the pool area, or to be left alone in the cottage.
Smoking is not permitted inside the cottage.
